Frequently Asked Questions

The questions people actually ask before sending metal in.

Do I have to know what karat my items are?

No. Guess if you like, or leave it blank. Purity is determined here after your items arrive, and that measurement — not your estimate — is what your offer is built on.

How is my weight measured?

Items are weighed after arrival, in the condition they arrive in. Settings, clasps, springs, and stones are accounted for separately from the metal, so you are not paying for a gemstone's weight or a hollow chain's air.

Will you buy a piece I might want to keep?

Anything sent to us can be returned if you decline the offer, so pieces with real sentimental weight are worth photographing before they leave. If a piece matters beyond its metal, say so on the form and we will walk you through where it lands before you commit.

Do you pay for scrap, or only for finished jewelry?

Both. Broken chains, single earrings, worn links, dental gold and filing scrap are all evaluated on measured weight and purity.

Does an offer on my quote request expire?

The numbers on a quote request are indicative only. A firm written offer follows testing, and that offer is the figure you accept or decline. Because metal values move daily, we ask that you respond to a firm offer promptly.

What do I do if I decline the offer?

Reply and say no. Your items are returned to you, and declining creates no fee, debt, or obligation on your side. You can request a fresh quote later.

How and when am I paid?

Payment follows your acceptance of the written offer. We pay through PayPal. Account details are collected only as needed to deliver that payment.

Can I send silver, platinum, or coins I want appraised?

We handle gold only — no silver-only lots, no platinum or palladium, and no standalone gemstones. We are not an appraisal service, so we do not issue certificates of authenticity or value for collectors.

Is there a minimum amount?

Small lots are accepted. If a shipment turns out to be so modest that the metal value is not meaningfully different from handling cost, we will tell you before you send it rather than after.

Can I visit in person?

All transactions are handled by mail, so there is no walk-in counter. Everything else — weighing, testing, offers, payment — works the same as it would across a counter.
